Principal Systems Technician

The Principal Systems Technician will oversee and maintain the organization's systems and infrastructure. This role involves a mix of hands-on technical work, mentoring junior technicians, and collaborating with other teams to ensure robust and secure operations.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. System Administration: Install, configure, and maintain servers, operating systems, and applications for optimal performance and security.
  2. Performance Monitoring: Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime and ensure reliability.
  3. System Upgrades: Lead system upgrade and maintenance activities, ensuring that patches and updates are applied consistently.
  4. Documentation: Develop and document standard operating procedures and best practices for system management.
  5. Mentorship: Train and mentor junior technicians, providing guidance on troubleshooting and system management techniques.
  6. Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance system functionality and integrate new technologies.
  7. Data Management: Manage backup and recovery processes, ensuring data integrity and availability.
  8. Professional Development: Stay up to date with the latest industry trends and technologies to ensure the organization remains competitive in its IT offerings.
  9. After-Hours Support: Participate in on-call rotations and address after-hours support requests as necessary.
Key Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in system administration or support roles.
  • Operating System Knowledge: Strong knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux) and various software applications.
  • Cross-Platform Expertise: Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Network Configuration: Proficient in network configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Technical Documentation: Ability to develop and document technical procedures and guidelines.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor technical teams successfully.
  • Certifications: Certifications such as Dell/HP and IBM Hardware Certifications, or similar are a plus.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to tasks.
