Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Hematology Specialist with clinical laboratories experience to lead our team in delivering exceptional patient care.

The successful candidate will be responsible for strategic leadership, communication, and teamwork within the section. They will ensure all aspects of clinical governance, including quality assurance and accreditation, and development of services.

They will contribute substantially to teaching as an integral and essential component of clinical practice. The specialist will lead or participate actively as a member of departmental/external committees pertaining to clinical care. They will actively participate in audit and implement and monitor quality control, quality assurance protocols, and record-keeping procedures that constitute good laboratory practice and comply with regulations imposed by agencies such as JCIA or CAP and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).

They will independently sign out difficult cases and provide clinico-pathologic advice to clinicians regarding abnormal results.

The specialist will also ensure the drafting and implementation of standard operating procedures, internal and external quality control of all tests, supervising staff, acquiring knowledge of advanced laboratory theory, techniques, and testing related to hematology and transfusion medicine, participating in departmental meetings, acquiring knowledge of standard laboratory safety procedures, performing costing of all tests, performing feasibility of new tests, ensuring proper test utilization and inventory management, and ensuring appropriate training and development of technical staff.

In addition, the specialist will participate in continuing educational activities (CME), actively participate in academic activities and research, participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs of medical lab technology programs, supervise, guide, and teach technical, allied health, and other support staff, organize and participate in departmental academic activities, participate in formal and informal education in the clinical setting, and participate in professional continuing educational activities, regular performance review, and maintain and update their own knowledge and skills.

The specialist will also participate in research and actively promote research activities, actively participate in inter-departmental research projects with fellows of other departments, proficiency testing, ordering, and result review with corrective action, supervise and report proficiency testing surveys, and perform any other task assigned by the hospital management.
