Optometry and Orthoptics Educator Role

The Optometry and Orthoptics Educator is a pivotal figure in academic settings, responsible for imparting knowledge and skills to students. This esteemed position requires a deep understanding of the subject matter, coupled with effective teaching methodologies and a commitment to fostering a stimulating learning environment.

  • Meet annual targets assigned by the Head of Department (HOD).
  • Work towards achieving goals set by the Dean/Principal to maintain a high-quality teaching and learning atmosphere for students.
  • Teach assigned courses as per faculty workload policies, ensuring alignment with institutional standards.
  • Continuously develop own teaching and learning abilities, contributing to the planning of educational programs.
  • Employ innovative instructional strategies and facilitate experiential learning during lessons.
  • Challenge thinking, promote debate, and encourage critical discourse and rational thought among students.
  • Supervise student projects, field trips, and placements, providing guidance and support when necessary.
  • Set, mark, and assess student work and examinations, offering constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate records of students' academic performance for internal evaluation purposes.
  • Execute mentoring roles for 15-20 students under the Riphah Mentoring Program.
  • Update data in virtual learning environments (VLEs) and other required software as needed.
  • Integrate Islamic and ethical values into teaching practices, participating in departmental and university committee activities as required.
  • Ensure that teaching content and methods align with the institution's mission and respond to issues related to subordinates and student needs.
  • Supervise and monitor student attendance in classes, labs, and practical sessions.
  • Contribute to publications or disseminate research findings using suitable media channels.
  • Pursue practical applications of research findings.
  • Engage in independent research and serve as principal investigator and project leader.
  • Assume line management responsibilities, overseeing the work of others in research teams and projects, or as PhD supervisor when necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the HOD.
