Data Systems Engineer Job Description

We are looking for a skilled Data Systems Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of a cloud-based platform aimed at combating coral reef degradation caused by global warming.

The successful candidate will have experience with designing and optimizing data systems using Azure cloud services.

  • This role requires strong expertise in Python, PySpark, SQL, and big data frameworks.

We are a group of passionate individuals driven by a mission to use technology for marine conservation.

Our team consists of developers, architects, ML engineers, and data specialists working together to build a scalable cloud-based platform.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Synapse Analytics.
  2. Integrate real-time and batch data for AI/ML models using Azure ML and MLOps.
  3. Implement storage solutions such as Azure Data Lake, Cosmos DB, and SQL DB.
  4. Optimize pipelines for speed, cost, and reliability through caching and partitioning.
  5. Monitor, troubleshoot, and fine-tune data workflows.
  6. Prepare datasets for feature engineering and model training using PySpark and Pandas.
  7. Collaborate with data scientists to deploy and monitor ML models.
  8. Ensure data encryption, access controls, and GDPR/HIPAA compliance.
  9. Work closely with frontend/backend engineers, DevOps, and conservation scientists.
  10. Enable data visualization using Power BI and Tableau for stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of experience in data engineering, preferably with Azure cloud services.
  • Expertise in Python, PySpark, SQL, and big data frameworks.
  • Experience with real-time data processing and ML pipeline integration.
  • Passion for sustainability, AI for good, or environmental tech.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
