Accountant for Travel Agency

A detail-oriented and experienced Accountant is required to manage the financial aspects of a travel agency, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.

The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of miles and reward programs from various airlines, hotels, and credit card companies. They should also be proficient in accounting software and tools, such as QuickBooks or similar platforms.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
  • Reconcile bank statements and credit card transactions regularly.
  • Understand and apply industry-specific accounting principles, such as commissions, travel expenses, and revenue recognition.
  • Handle billing, invoicing, and payment processing related to travel bookings.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of various miles and reward programs.
  • Assist clients in optimizing their rewards by providing expert guidance on program benefits and redemptions.
  • Generate financial reports and statements to analyze the agency's financial health and performance.
  • Provide insights and recommendations for improving profitability and cost management.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and tax requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as an Accountant or similar role, with expertise in travel agency accounting.
  • In-depth knowledge of miles and reward programs.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and tools.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain miles/reward program benefits to clients.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Familiarity with tax regulations and compliance in the travel industry.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Other Requirements:

  • Hands-on experience with ticketing systems and GDS software (Sabre & Galileo).
