Job Title: WASH Hygiene Promoter

As a WASH Hygiene Promoter, you will play a crucial role in delivering hygiene promotion and community mobilization activities in the humanitarian sector.

The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the effective delivery of WASH hygiene promotion and community mobilization activities, working closely with senior officers, managers, and coordinators.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in hygiene campaigns, conduct house-to-house hygiene promotion, and prepare written materials for field activities, developing clear and adapted messages/activities for beneficiaries.
• Support concept papers and proposals for interventions, providing data in close cooperation with teams. Support the capacity building of local staff and stakeholders in WASH-related program implementation.

Main Tasks And Responsibilities:

• Perform daily tasks under limited or basic living conditions and a working environment. The duties and responsibilities listed represent the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.

Assessment:

• Conduct rapid needs assessments and their analysis, performing household-level assessments.
• Support the WASH officer in translating identified needs into activity plans and budgets.

Program Design and Implementation:

• Deliver the implementation of the aims and objectives of the WASH response program, aligned with WASH Coordinator or Manager guidance and WASH strategy.
• Support the development of concept papers, letters of intent, proposals, and budgets for assigned WASH areas.
• Collaborate with other actors to deliver a suitable hygiene promotion program that fits the local context and is accepted by beneficiaries (communities, health facilities, camps, and schools).
• Mobilize the community on behavior change related to hygiene practices and identify the most appropriate messages for the target population.
• Assist community volunteers in identifying locations/sites for WASH infrastructures and coordinate with CHVs to identify informal settlements in host communities.
• Conduct focus group discussions, delivering clear messages on good hygiene practices.
• Organize training sessions and participate in facilitation in health facilities, IDP camps, schools, and host communities; determine necessary materials for each campaign/activity.
• Select and train Community Hygiene Volunteer (CHV) promoters and collect data for CHV beneficiaries in communities.
• Input beneficiaries' data into a spreadsheet to distribute NFI kits and oversee distribution of water, hygiene, and sanitation items.
• Train and monitor CHVs on conducting hygiene promotion sessions and maintaining log sheets, documenting topics discussed, advice provided, and attendees; report issues for follow-up action.
• Collect CHV log sheets monthly and certify work; report progress to the supervisor.
• Participate in hygiene campaigns and drama shows in schools, communities, and IDP camps in close coordination with community volunteers.
• Facilitate documentation of health-related data and maintain records on hygiene promotion activities.
• Report challenges and successes during activities and escalate issues as needed for follow-up/action.
• If assigned, collect water samples from households and sources and conduct quality tests using the Del Aqua Kit; record all results.
• Complete daily reports on CHV evaluation, water testing, and NFI distribution.
• Consult with M & E to provide accurate raw data for impact analysis during post-distribution surveys and provide input for monthly and quarterly WASH reports; prepare monthly progress reports per donor standards and templates, internal reports, and MEAL reports for concerned sectors.
• Timely reporting of Hygiene Promotion activities to the supervisor/WASH Officer.

Information and Coordination:

• Provide regular updates and technical guidance to the WASH Coordinator or Manager WASH on progress, priorities, and challenges – verbally and in writing.
• Represent organizations as assigned by WASH Coordinator or Manager WASH in governmental and non-governmental groups as needed and agreed with the supervisor.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Minimum bachelor's degree in social sciences or relevant technical WASH specialization.
• At least one year of work experience in implementing hygiene promotion systems in IDPs, refugee, and migrant contexts.
• Two years of experience supervising and interacting with international staff, partners, and donors.
• Field experience managing national water, sanitation, and hygiene programs in complex humanitarian settings, including emergency responses.
• Experience in a national emergency and early recovery phases, including assessing and delivering hygiene promotion interventions in humanitarian and development contexts.
• The ability to effectively analyze complex problems and propose solutions with positive impact.
• Understanding of the WASH sector and its software and hardware components.
• Competent in using Windows and other software.
• Ability to effectively present information (written and verbal) and respond to questions from senior managers, field counterparts, and senior government officials.
• Ability to understand gender-related challenges within beneficiary groups.
• Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret technical and non-technical information in English.
