Switchgear Design Director
A challenging opportunity exists for a seasoned Switchgear Design Director to lead and manage the design and development of electrical switchgear products and systems. This role requires a highly skilled and experienced professional with strong leadership capabilities, a deep understanding of switchgear technology, and the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams.

About the Role:
The ideal candidate will oversee the technical aspects of switchgear design, ensure compliance with industry standards, and drive innovation in the design process. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Design Leadership:
    • Lead a team of electrical engineers and designers in the development and design of switchgear systems, ensuring high-quality outputs.
    • Provide technical direction, mentoring, and support to team members to ensure the successful execution of projects.
    • Oversee and manage the entire design lifecycle, from conceptual design through to final production.
  2. Project Management:
    • Develop and manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for switchgear design projects.
    • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (R&D, production, procurement, etc.) to ensure timely delivery and quality of design solutions.
    • Manage project risk, resolve technical issues, and ensure that design solutions meet both customer and regulatory requirements.
  3. Product Development and Innovation:
    • Innovate and improve switchgear designs, applying the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
    • Work closely with R&D teams to develop new products and refine existing designs for performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
    • Ensure that designs are scalable, manufacturable, and cost-competitive.
  4. Compliance and Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure all switchgear designs comply with relevant national and international standards (e.g., IEC, ANSI, IEEE).
    • Lead design validation and testing processes, ensuring that all products meet safety, operational, and performance specifications.
    • Implement and enforce design review processes to minimize errors and ensure adherence to quality standards.
  5. Client and Stakeholder Management:
    • Liaise with clients, sales teams, and other stakeholders to define design requirements and specifications.
    • Provide technical support during the pre-sale and post-sale phases, addressing customer queries and concerns related to switchgear designs.
    • Maintain strong relationships with key clients, understanding their needs and ensuring successful project execution.
  6. Continuous Improvement:
    • Establish and promote continuous improvement initiatives within the design team.
    • Review design processes, identify inefficiencies, and implement process enhancements.
    • Stay updated on new trends, technologies, and best practices within the switchgear and electrical engineering fields.

Requirements:
To be considered for this role, applicants should possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field. A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in switchgear design is required, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role. Proven track record in managing switchgear design projects, from concept through to execution, is essential. Strong experience in electrical engineering design principles, including protection schemes, control circuits, and electrical components, is also necessary. Familiarity with software tools for switchgear design (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP, and others) is preferred. Expertise in switchgear technologies, including medium and low voltage switchgear, and in-depth understanding of relevant electrical codes, standards, and regulations (IEC, ANSI, IEEE), is required. Excellent leadership, team management, and mentoring abilities, as well as strong communication skills, are also essential for success in this role.
