Senior Technical Accounting Specialist

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Technical Accounting Specialist to lead our IFRS reporting team and be responsible for technical accounting assessments, preparation of supporting position papers, and presentations to key stakeholders.

About the Role:
  • This individual will perform IFRS technical accounting assessments for Group transactions, including preparation of quality supporting position papers at the Group level, and presentations to key stakeholders (Group Chief Financial Officer, Director Financial Control, Audit and Risk Committee)
  • The selected candidate will prepare and review Group statutory annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and any local GAAP requirements applicable to the entity's jurisdiction
  • He/She will also review and execute quarterly financial reporting controls and procedures in support of the preparation and review of the Group quarterly and annual financial statements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform IFRS technical accounting assessments for VEON Group transactions
  • Prepare quality supporting position papers at the VEON Group level and present to key stakeholders
  • Prepare and review Group statutory annual financial statements according to IFRS and local GAAP
  • Review and execute quarterly financial reporting controls and procedures
  • Act as a strategic business partner for ongoing strategic projects for the VEON Group
  • Provide IFRS accounting advice on complex accounting areas with other HQ Functions (M&A, Legal, Tax, Treasury, HR)
  • Review and coordinate Treasury accounting related matters such as IBR and fair value of Group Debt
  • Support Operating Companies (OpCos) in application and compliance with IFRS on non-routine transactions ensuring proper IFRS accounting treatment
  • Monitor changes in IFRS accounting pronouncements, assess the impact on the VEON Group, and update the annual VEON Accounting Manual

Requirements:

  • Extensive IFRS technical accounting expertise
  • Accounting certification required (ACCA, CPA, RA)
  • Minimum 6 years of previous work experience in similar role or within a Big 4 firm
  • Experience in researching and concluding on technical and complex accounting matters and transactions
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment, multitask various priorities, and work under pressure with strict deadlines
  • Strong project management and relationship building skills
  • Analytical and conceptual thinker
  • Proactive and self-starter, ability to work independently
  • Collaborative team member
  • Experience with working on multicultural environments
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, both verbally and written in English
