Job Overview

The role of the Senior MHPSS Officer is to provide expert support to field teams in the implementation of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities.

Main Responsibilities
  • Implement daily program operations.
  • Oversee and organize the work of MHPSS case management staff, including team members, social workers, psychotherapists, and psychiatrists working on the field within designated areas.
  • Assist in the recruitment of IMC MHPSS field staff.
  • Develop and validate work schedules with all concerned parties and ensure commitment to these schedules.
  • Ensure proper planning for logistics, such as transportation.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with MHPSS staff in the area, focusing mainly on case managers.
  • Collect daily information through written reports and data collection sheets.
  • Attend interagency and local coordination meetings, representing IMC MHPSS Department on mental health and psychosocial support issues.
  • Organize MH case management technical meetings.
  • Regularly visit PHCCs/centers supported by IMC to monitor work and ensure communication flow with partners.
  • Ensure psychotropic measures are in place, including consumption, reporting, monitoring storage, availability for beneficiaries, and pharmacy-related needs.
  • Conduct assessments of mental health needs in the area.
  • Lead new initiatives and conduct necessary assessments within the area of operation, according to IMC MHPSS country strategy.
  • Become familiar with all IMC MHPSS programs and service packages.
  • Provide recommendations for program development as required.
Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Ensure MHPSS activities and trainings align with protocol and program objectives.
  • Guarantee planned activities align with project indicators, objectives, and timeline.
  • Utilize measuring tools to assess success in accordance with program indicators.
  • Report daily on important issues requiring supervisor feedback and decision-making.
  • Collaborate in the development of M&E tools and mechanisms.
  • Ensure proper implementation and utilization of M&E tools and mechanisms regularly.
Capacity Building
  • Identify capacity development needs of MHPSS case management staff members.
  • Develop a training plan for MHPSS case management team within the area.
  • Follow up on training implementation, prepare schedules, and set training requirements.
  • Document training attendance, pre-post tests, and submit training reports.
  • Participate in training, supervision, and team meetings, serving as the main mental health focal point for IMC in the designated area.
Reporting
  • Track client numbers/cases through IMC outpatient records submitted monthly.
  • Monitor work and ensure communication flow with partners through regular visits to PHCs/centers supported by IMC.
  • Collect data from MHPSS Case Management team on a regular basis.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for information flow and legal action.
  • Conduct file audits and submit monthly tracking reports to the MHPSS case management support manager.
  • Provide technical oversight on case management services provided at MHPSS-supported clinics.
  • Document meetings in the area of work and submit regular reports to the MEAL team and MHPSS program Coordinator.
