Job Overview

As a senior data engineer, you will play a key role in modernizing our analytics platform around Google Cloud. Your primary objective is to design and implement robust pipelines for ingesting high-volume MySQL data into BigQuery, transforming it for self-service reporting, and building production-grade ML pipelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and maintain efficient MySQL → GCS → BigQuery pipelines, incorporating partitioning, clustering, and materialized views for speed and cost-effectiveness.
  • Build DAGs in Airflow/Cloud Composer and automate testing, CI/CD, and deployment with Terraform and Cloud Build.
  • Develop end-to-end Machine Learning Pipelines (data prep, training, validation, registry, deployment) and integrate with BigQuery ML for rapid prototyping.
  • Establish automated validation gates, freshness SLAs, lineage, and alerting to ensure data quality and observability.
  • Optimize slot reservations, query costs, and storage lifecycle while enforcing IAM least privilege, encryption, and compliance with GDPR and UAE PDPL.
  • Translate ad-hoc analytics/ML needs into technical plans and document them clearly for analysts and junior engineers.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Expert SQL skills with BigQuery optimization, including partitioning, clustering, and materialized views.
  • Proficient Python skills (pandas or Polars) for transformation and scripting.
  • Demonstrated experience in MySQL → GCS → BigQuery ingestion (full & CDC).
  • DAG-based orchestration with Airflow/Cloud Composer or equivalent.
  • Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform or Deployment Manager.
  • ML Pipelines and MLOps best-practice (experiment tracking, registry, CI/CD).
  • Automated data-quality gates, freshness SLAs, and lineage.
  • Cost-optimization dashboards and slot reservation tuning.
