Freight Dispatcher Job Description

Job Summary: The Freight Dispatcher plays a pivotal role in orchestrating the seamless transportation of goods. They are responsible for coordinating and monitoring all aspects of the transportation process, from scheduling shipments to communicating with drivers and resolving any issues that may arise during transit.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Identify and resolve any transportation-related issues, such as traffic delays, breakdowns, or delivery discrepancies.
  2. Ensure accurate completion and processing of required documentation, including bills of lading and delivery receipts.
  3. Deliver exceptional customer service by promptly responding to customer inquiries and concerns, and updating them on the status of their shipments.
  4. Stay informed about relevant transportation regulations and ensure compliance with all legal requirements.
  5. Utilize tracking software and systems to monitor shipment progress and provide real-time updates to stakeholders.
  6. Generate reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to transportation operations, such as on-time deliveries and cost metrics.
  7. Collaborate with other team members, including drivers, warehouse personnel, and customer service representatives, to ensure smooth operations.
  8. Optimize transportation routes to maximize efficiency and minimize costs.
  9. Schedule and assign shipments to available drivers and vehicles, taking into account delivery deadlines and customer requirements.
  10. Maintain regular communication with drivers, providing them with necessary information and updates regarding their routes and deliveries.
