Job Title: Bureau Chief

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Bureau Chief to lead our team of reporters in covering regional and local news, as well as national and international stories. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of producing high-quality content and managing a team to deliver results.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and mentor a team of reporters to ensure they are meeting their targets and delivering high-quality content.
  • Cover and present stories from regional and local press, as well as national and international news, sports, arts and culture, science, and business.
  • Build and maintain relationships with contacts in the community, including police and emergency services, local council, community groups, health trusts, and other organisations.
  • Seek out and investigate stories via contacts, press releases, and other media.
  • Answer phones on the news desk and react to breaking news stories.
  • Work closely with the news team, photographers, and editors to produce engaging and informative content.
  • Record interviews and meetings using shorthand or technical equipment.
  • Upload news content for radio broadcasts.
  • Provide live online reporting when covering important events.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in a senior editorial role, preferably in a news organisation.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of journalism principles and practices.
  • Ability to think creatively and develop innovative ideas.
  • Proficient in MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Valid driving license and access to a vehicle.
