Key Responsibilities of the SOC Analyst L1 Role

  • Monitor and analyze security events from various sources including SIEM, firewalls, IDS/IPS, EDR, and network traffic to identify potential threats.
  • Perform in-depth root cause analysis and recommend remediation strategies to mitigate security risks.
  • Coordinate and support containment, eradication, and recovery efforts during security incidents, ensuring minimal downtime and data loss.
  • Lead threat hunting activities, proactively identifying potential threats and vulnerabilities in our systems.
  • Document incident findings and contribute to improving playbooks and response processes to enhance our overall security posture.
  • Work closely with threat intelligence and engineering teams to fine-tune detection rules and improve coverage, reducing the attack surface.
  • Ensure all incidents are logged, tracked, and resolved in accordance with established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Requirements for Success
  • A Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a Security Operations Center (SOC), with a strong understanding of security principles and practices.
  • Strong knowledge of attack vectors, threat landscapes, and malware behavior, with hands-on experience with tools such as SIEM, EDR, IDS/IPS, and firewalls.
  • Familiarity with the MITRE ATT&CK framework, kill chain model, and threat hunting techniques, with relevant certifications preferred, such as GCIA, GCIH, CEH, CySA+, or equivalent.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
