Medical Record Technician

The Aga Khan University Hospital offers comprehensive medical services to its patients. The healthcare institute has a network of hospitals and Medical Centres across Pakistan.

Health Information Management Services (HIMS) provides critical services including medical record keeping, coding, transcription, and document imaging. These services are essential for maintaining accurate patient records.

HIMS handles over 1.8 million medical records daily with an average increase of 500 files per day.

Records are circulated within the hospital campus each day.

Key Responsibilities
  • Retrieve patient records from locations based on requisitions received from clinics, wards, ER, and place them in designated areas.
  • Dropping loose sheets into their respective files by verifying medical record number and patient name, then mounting them in the medical record file.
  • Check overdue files through lists at all locations and physicians' offices to ensure availability for patient care.
  • Receiving review requests and maintaining review logs to facilitate research activities.
  • Shelving returned files in terminal digit order for prompt retrieval.
  • Repair or replace torn folders for efficient management of medical records.
  • Review file placement on shelves by checking medical record numbers to identify misplaced files.
  • Perform other related tasks assigned by supervisors.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Intermediate education with one year of formal training in medical record storage, retrieval, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs/software.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
