Compliance Officer Role and Responsibilities

The primary objective of this role is to ensure the organization's compliance with established processes, policies, and standards. This involves contributing to the enhancement of compliance through regular internal reviews/audits, verifying that organizational processes and policies are being adhered to.

  1. Compliance Enhancement: The Compliance Officer will contribute to the development and implementation of effective compliance processes, ensuring that all stakeholders are aware of their responsibilities and obligations.
  2. Internal Reviews/Audits: Regular internal reviews/audits will be conducted to verify that organizational processes and policies are being adhered to. This will involve identifying areas of non-compliance and implementing corrective actions.
  3. Compliance Guidance: The Compliance Officer will provide guidance on compliance matters, regularly reviewing ongoing project work to identify potential compliance issues.
  4. Compliance Vulnerability Identification: The Compliance Officer will continuously identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, assisting functional heads (Process Owners) in implementing corrective actions for resolving compliance issues.
  5. Independent Investigation: The Compliance Officer will act as an independent entity to ensure that compliance issues/concerns within the organization are appropriately investigated, recorded, and resolved.
  6. Compliance Coordination: The Compliance Officer will monitor and coordinate compliance activities across departments to stay updated on the status of all compliance activities and identify trends.
  7. Effective Compliance System: The Compliance Officer will develop and maintain an effective compliance system, encompassing processes, policies, and communication channels for the organization.
  8. Compliance Procedure Evaluation: The Compliance Officer will evaluate and improve compliance procedures and policies regularly, maintaining documentation of compliance activities.
  9. Training and Development: The Compliance Officer will support functional heads (process owners) and HR in designing a comprehensive compliance training program, including introductory training for new employees as well as ongoing trainings (refreshers) for all staff members.
  10. Certification and Standards: The Compliance Officer will ensure adherence to ISO 9001 and any other relevant standard to which the organization is certified or compliant.
  11. Management Reporting: The Compliance Officer will prepare management reports on compliance operations and progress, consolidating findings from review/audit reports and action plans for senior management review.
  12. Employee Support: The Compliance Officer will serve as a confidential point of contact for employees to discuss and report compliance matters anonymously, seek clarification on compliance-related issues, and highlight potential risks.
  13. Collaboration and Process Improvement: The Compliance Officer will collaborate with the process improvement team in embedding compliance and controls within processes and assisting in the implementation/adoption of new processes.

  • Compliance Experience and Certification: In-depth understanding of processes, policies, audits, and compliance. Audit and compliance experience preferred. ISO 9001 Lead Auditor / Internal Auditor Certification preferred.
