The Medical Officer will be responsible for providing high-quality medical care to patients in a hospital setting. This role requires a strong commitment to delivering exceptional patient outcomes, while also maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities- Provide routine and emergency medical cover during hours of duty, working collaboratively with other Medical Officers to ensure a 24-hour service.
- Evaluate patients admitted to the ward, taking complete histories and performing pertinent physical examinations, and documenting all findings in the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS).
- Undertake daily ward rounds, ideally accompanied by a member of the nursing staff, to ensure patients receive regular visits and attention as needed.
- Record patient progress and any significant events or changes in the HMIS system following ward rounds or other patient examinations, communications, or procedures.
- Seek advice from senior team members regarding patient health matters.
- Receive handover reports from alternative RMO/SMO and attend ward areas promptly when commencing duty in all shifts.
- Provide pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care for admitted patients.
- Manage laboring patients and perform vaginal deliveries, including vacuum deliveries, within their level of experience and competency.
- Assess and manage patients in the Emergency Room, ensuring that complicated antenatal cases are assessed by SMO and endorsed by specialist on call before admission or discharge decisions are made.
- Perform certain medical procedures, as advised by Consultants, within their level of experience and competence.
- Liaise regularly with nursing staff to check on patient progress, or more frequently if a patient's condition necessitates it.
- Discuss medication with patients on discharge and write a discharge summary.
- Professional approach to interacting with patients, staff, and visitors.
- Able to work within their level of experience and competence, highlighting verbally and in writing all orders given by Consultants and their team members.
