We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Medical Officer to join our healthcare team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing medical care and support to patients, staff, and visitors within the hospital premises.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, be able to work effectively in a team environment, and maintain confidentiality at all times.
A professional approach must be adopted when interacting with patients, staff, and visitors. The officer must work within their level of experience and competence, highlighting verbally and in writing all orders given by consultants and their team members while caring for patients in wards.
To provide medical cover, routine and emergency, during hours of duty and work in conjunction with other officers to ensure a 24-hour service to the hospital.
The officer will evaluate patients admitted to the ward by taking complete history, performing pertinent physical examinations, and documenting all findings in the hospital management information system.
Ward rounds will be undertaken daily, preferably with a nursing staff member when available, ensuring patients are visited where appropriate.
Patient progress and events will be recorded in the hospital management information system following ward rounds, examinations, communications, or procedures.
Senior team members will be consulted regarding patient health issues.
Handover reports from previous officers will be received, and the ward area will be attended within an hour of commencing duty in all shifts.
Pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care will be provided for admitted patients.
Laboring patients will be managed, and vaginal deliveries, including vacuum deliveries, will be performed according to residency/competency level and supervision.
Patients in the emergency room will be assessed and managed. Complex antenatal cases will be evaluated by a senior medical officer and endorsed by a specialist before admission or discharge decisions.
Medical procedures advised by the consultant will be undertaken within the officer's experience and competence.
Nursing staff will be liaised with regularly to check on patient progress and see patients at their request, conducting examinations as needed.
Discharge medications will be discussed with patients, and discharge summaries will be prepared.
All patient medical information must be kept confidential and respected at all levels; Medical Officers shall not disclose information.
Urgent medical attention and treatment will be provided to staff or visitors in case of accidents or sudden illness, in liaison with the medical team.
The officer is expected to remain on hospital premises during duty hours. If an officer does not attend, the previous officer must stay until a replacement is found to ensure continuous coverage.
Compliance with all hospital policies and procedures, especially those related to Health and Safety at Work, is essential.
Effective interpersonal relationships with staff, patients, and their families are crucial for success in this role.
