Job Title: Medical Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Support Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our cardiac surgery department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our OR.

About the Role:

  • Assist surgeons to scrub in for complex cardiac surgeries
  • Maintain aseptic measures and ensure sound infection control practices
  • Run the OR independently in the absence of senior staff
  • Perform various OT operational tasks such as cleaning equipment, arranging instruments, and verifying availability of consumable items
  • Implement patient safety measures and ensure effective communication between surgeons and OT staff

Requirements:

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in cardiac surgery
  • Matric preferably Intermediate with Diploma
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Key Responsibilities:

Arrange and maintain equipment and instruments for cardiac procedures. Ensure consent forms have correct patient information and have been signed and approved by concerned authority. Assist surgeons to scrub in. Ensure sound aseptic measures are followed. Run OR in absence of In-charge. Perform OT operational activities independently such as cleaning all OT and medical equipment. Arrange surgical instruments for procedure. Arrange trolleys with minimum supervision. Verify availability of all equipment, instruments and consumable items before and after procedures, informing surgeon accordingly. Document use of all equipment during procedures. Document consumption form. Shift patient to Recovery Room after assuring patient is cleaned, dressed and covered. Implement and ensure patient safety measures are followed. Coordinate with Housekeeping to ensure cleanliness of OR is maintained. Maintain effective communication channel between surgeons and OT staff. Perform all tasks assigned by Supervisor/Head of Cardiac Surgeon.
