SEO Specialist Job Description

The SEO specialist role involves maximizing inbound organic traffic from search engines to our website. This requires developing and executing optimization strategies to increase our website's search engine results rankings, driving business growth through data-driven insights.

The responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with editorial and marketing teams to drive SEO in content creation and marketing efforts
  • Implementing search engine optimization recommendations based on research and best practices
  • Creating a link building strategy to develop high-quality backlinks
  • Determining measurable goals to demonstrate improvement in marketing efforts through data-driven insights
  • Creating compelling website content, including blog posts and page descriptions, to improve search engine results

The day-to-day duties involve:

  • Conducting page optimization for search engine marketing
  • Monitoring performance metrics using SEO tools like Google Analytics
  • Collaborating with the marketing department to manage SEO strategy
  • Performing keyword research, discovery, and optimization
  • Collaborating with the web development team to ensure SEO best practices are followed throughout website content
  • Improving website architecture, content, linking, and other factors to improve SEO positions
Required Skills and Qualifications

No formal education program exists for an SEO specialist. Instead, break into the position through experience, success, research, and trial and error. Essential skills and qualifications include:

  • Experience with Google and Bing services, including Analytics and Webmaster Tools
  • Experience with Google's Keyword Tool
  • A functional understanding of HTML and CSS
  • Ability to work with back-end SEO elements like .htaccess, robots.txt, metadata, site speed optimization, and related skills
  • Proven success in link building and viral strategies
  • Ability to deploy an effective local and long-tail search strategy
  • A deep understanding of mobile strategy and how it relates to SEO
  • Solid grasp of how blogging, press releases, social media, and related strategies go hand-in-hand with SEO
  • Experience in building inbound organic search traffic and improving SERPs
  • Background in creating reports showing web analytics data and site evaluations
  • Up-to-date working knowledge of current, past, and projected trends in the SEO industry
