Electrical Design Engineer Role Overview

The Electrical Engineer provides engineering oversight throughout the proposal and design phase of solar PV projects. This includes all aspects of a solar system, including racking, equipment foundations and pads, fencing, and site construction support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish a solar basis of design including module selection, string sizing, ground coverage ratio, inverter selection, inverter power factor requirements, inverter loading ratio, and cable sizing
  • Design solar systems, including 1-line diagrams and array layouts
  • Demonstrate structural, mechanical, and electrical design skills with the ability to generate accurate, highly detailed construction drawings and documents using AutoCAD software
  • Closely collaborate with project development and construction teams in the design, development, and construction of solar systems
  • Apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices to tasks, particularly when analyzing current technical tools, and evaluating tools
  • Perform energy simulation analysis using PVsyst to help finance and business development teams acquire new projects
  • Collaborate with suppliers and third-party personnel to facilitate design and development of solar systems
  • Assist in creating 30% and IFC PVsyst reports
  • Maintain a culture of continuous improvement and problem-solving
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
  • 2+ years of experience in solar PV system design
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, HelioScope, and solar performance modeling software
  • Demonstrated electrical, structural, and mechanical design skills, and the ability to generate accurate, highly detailed construction drawings
  • Licensed P.E. in the state of Minnesota or willingness to obtain within a certain timeframe
