Job Overview

To succeed in this challenging role, you will need to possess a strong foundation in electrical engineering and a solid understanding of photovoltaic systems.

  • You will be responsible for reviewing blueprints, design documents, and specifications to determine work requirements.
  • Site surveys and collaboration with the design team will be crucial aspects of this position.
  • Ensuring accurate sizing, ratings, and locations for all system devices is also essential.
  • You will recommend installation locations with proper orientation, area, solar access, or structural integrity for photovoltaic arrays.
  • Selecting locations for Balance of System components will also be part of your responsibilities.
  • You will recommend construction materials and equipment per site specifications.
  • Selecting connection interfaces for subpanels or connecting photovoltaic systems with utility services will also be necessary.
  • Determining necessary materials, equipment, and installation sequences for maximum efficiency will require close attention to detail.
  • Identifying electrical, environmental, and safety hazards associated with photovoltaic installations will be critical.
  • Executing safe storage of equipment and materials on site will also be a priority.
  • You will assemble solar panels on mounting structures as detailed in drawings.
  • Identifying and resolving any deficiencies in photovoltaic system plans will be essential.
  • Installing photovoltaic systems according to engineering drawings, schematics, and instructions will be a key responsibility.
  • Applying weather sealing to array, building, or support mechanisms will also be necessary.
  • Applying sealants or protective coatings as required will be part of your duties.
  • You will install module array interconnect wiring and implement measures to disable arrays during installation.
  • Checking electrical installation for proper wiring, polarity, grounding, or terminations will require careful inspection.
  • Testing operating voltages to ensure operation within acceptable limits will be crucial.
  • Activating photovoltaic systems to verify functionality and conformity to performance expectations will be a key step.
  • Testing electrical and mechanical equipment to ensure proper functioning will be essential.
  • You will program inverters and controls for desired set points and operating modes.
  • Visually inspecting and testing photovoltaic systems as per commissioning checklist will be necessary.
  • Testing installed system after commissioning to verify performance up to required level will be a final check.
  • Installing required labels on solar system components and hardware will be the last step.

This role requires ongoing maintenance of photovoltaic systems, including modules, arrays, batteries, power conditioning equipment, safety systems, structural systems, weather sealing, or balance of systems equipment.

Requirements
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience in PV module installation.
  • Comprehensive experience in reading and implementing engineering plans (electrical, civil, mechanical).
