Job Overview:

The Solar Design Engineer is responsible for designing and developing solar energy systems, including photovoltaic (PV) panels and related components. The role involves assessing client needs, creating system designs, ensuring compliance with regulations, and optimizing system performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Design:
  • Develop detailed designs for solar energy systems, including PV panels, inverters, mounting systems, and other components.
  • Utilize design software (e.g., PVsyst, Helioscope, PVX, SketchUp, AutoCAD) to create accurate and efficient system layouts.
  • Calculate energy production estimates, system efficiency, and financial returns.
  • Site Assessment:
  • Conduct site visits to evaluate conditions such as solar exposure, shading, and structural integrity.
  • Analyze geographical, environmental, and climatic data to inform system design.
  • Prepare site assessment reports and recommendations.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure designs meet local, state, and federal regulations and standards.
  • Prepare and submit necessary documentation for permits and approvals.
  • Stay updated on changes in regulations and industry standards.
  • Technical Analysis:
  • Perform load calculations and energy modeling to optimize system performance.
  • Analyze and address any technical issues that arise during the design or installation phases.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate components based on performance, cost, and reliability.
  • Quality Assurance:
  • Conduct quality checks and testing of systems to ensure they meet design specifications and performance standards.
  • Implement best practices and continuous improvement strategies to enhance design quality.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Prepare detailed design documentation, including schematics, installation manuals, and maintenance guidelines.
  • Generate reports on system performance, energy production, and cost savings for clients and stakeholders.
  • Quotation/proposal Preparation
  • Customer Support:
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to clients during and after installation.
  • Educate clients on system operation, maintenance, and potential upgrades.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
  • Experience: 1 year in designing and implementing solar energy systems.
  • Skills:
  • Proficiency in solar design software (e.g., PVsyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD).
  • Strong understanding of solar technology, system components, and energy modeling.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering principles.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
