The Role:
The L2 API Gateway Operations Engineer is responsible for maintaining the stability, performance, and security of the API Gateway platform. The role involves handling escalations from L1, performing version upgrades, managing deployments, troubleshooting incidents, and ensuring smooth API delivery across environments. This position plays a critical role in supporting business integrations, maintaining SLAs, and coordinating with L3/vendor teams when required.

Key Responsibilities:

L2 Support & Incident Management

• Act as the L2 point of contact for API Gateway issues escalated from L1.
• Troubleshoot platform errors, API failures, and performance bottlenecks.
• Coordinate with L3/vendor teams for complex issues requiring deeper intervention.

Version Upgrades & Maintenance

• Plan and execute API Gateway software/version upgrades in production and staging environments.
• Validate platform stability and ensure compliance with enterprise security standards post-upgrade.

API Deployment & Configuration

• Configure APIs as per business and integration requirements.
• Test APIs in staging environments and validate against business use cases.
• Deploy APIs to production after Business and IS sign-off.

User & Access Management

• Manage internal and external API consumer accounts.
• Implement access control, quotas, TPS limits, and rate-limiting policies.
• Ensure secure onboarding and offboarding of API users.

Monitoring & Reporting

• Monitor system health, traffic, and API transactions.
• Generate and share usage reports, performance analytics, and trend analysis.
• Proactively identify risks and recommend optimizations.

Governance & Compliance

• Ensure platform operations adhere to organizational compliance and security policies.
• Maintain updated documentation for L2 procedures, runbooks, and escalation flows.
• Support audits by providing logs, evidence, and compliance reports.

Required Skills

• Hands-on experience with
  API Gateway platforms
  (Apigee, WSO2, Kong, MuleSoft, or equivalent).
• Knowledge of
  API lifecycle management
  and
  integration practices
  .
• Proficiency in
  API security
  (OAuth2, JWT, mTLS, API keys).
• Strong skills in
  Linux administration, scripting (Shell/Python)
  , and log analysis.
• Familiarity with
  monitoring tools, alerting, and performance tuning
  .
• Good communication and incident coordination skills.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in
  Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  .
• 2–4 years of experience in
  API management / middleware / L2 application operations
  .
• Proven experience in
  production support, upgrades, and troubleshooting
  .
• Exposure to
  cloud platforms and CI/CD pipelines
  is a plus..
