DBA / Database Developer – Job Opening Description

Position Overview:

We are seeking a versatile
DBA / Database Developer
to manage, optimize, and enhance our database environment. This hybrid role combines the responsibilities of a
Database
Administrator/ Database Developer
, ensuring database reliability, security, and performance, designing efficient queries, structures, and data solutions to support web and mobile applications.

Location:
Houston, USA

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration (DBA):

  • Install, configure, and maintain SQL databases (SQL Server, MySQL, AWS Aurora).
  • Monitor system health and performance; troubleshoot slow queries and server issues.
  • Manage database backups, restores, and disaster recovery plans.
  • Implement and maintain database security (roles, permissions, encryption).
  • Apply patches, upgrade, and keep databases current.

Database Development and Data Architecture

  • Develop and manage
    ETL processes
    to integrate data across systems.
  • Optimize queries and indexing for scalability and performance.
  • Collaborate with application developers, analysts, and customer to translate requirements into database solutions.
  • Design and maintain tables, views, stored procedures, functions, and triggers.
  • Write efficient SQL queries to support applications, reporting, and analytics.
  • Document database structures, processes, and best practices.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong SQL development skills with 5+ years of practical DBA experience.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more RDBMS (
    SQL Server, MySQL
    , PostgreSQL).
  • Experience with ETL processes and proficiency in at least one ETL tool (e.g., SSIS).
  • Knowledge of AWS RDS and familiarity with a range of AWS services.
  • Ability to write scripts (e.g., Python) for data import/export and automation.
  • Strong understanding of backups, recovery, and high availability concepts.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
