The Packaging Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for packaging jobs (such as cartons, boxes, printing, corrugated material, labels, or custom packaging). The role requires strong analytical skills, knowledge of packaging materials, and the ability to interpret designs, drawings, and specifications to determine production costs.

Responsibilities

Cost Estimation

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for packaging products including materials, printing, die-cutting, lamination, finishing, and labor.
  • Analyze customer requirements, drawings, and specifications to determine accurate cost breakdowns.
  • Calculate machine time, manpower requirements, and production costs based on company standards.
  • Estimate costs of raw materials such as paperboard, corrugated sheets, inks, adhesives, films, foils, and packaging accessories.

Job Analysis & Quotation Preparation

  • Review artwork, structural designs, and technical documents to identify production needs.
  • Generate competitive quotes and proposals for the sales team and clients.
  • Update and maintain a pricing database for materials, labor, and services.
  • Ensure quotations are submitted within agreed timelines.

Coordination & Communication

  • Communicate with the production, procurement, and sales teams for accurate cost inputs.
  • Coordinate with vendors/suppliers to obtain updated material prices.
  • Support the sales team with technical details and cost explanations when required.

Documentation & Record Keeping

  • Maintain all estimation files, cost sheets, and job records.
  • Update costing templates and systems with revised material rates and machine parameters.
  • Prepare estimation reports for management review.
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Assist in identifying cost-saving opportunities in materials, production processes, and packaging design.
  • Stay updated with market price trends and new packaging technologies.
