Assistant Manager – R&D
will play a key role in managing product design, development, and process improvements. The position involves close coordination with production teams, suppliers, and design personnel to ensure innovative, cost-effective, and high-quality product development. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, creativity in design thinking, and hands-on experience in R&D processes within a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with production personnel to provide technical guidance and resolve daily process-related issues.
- Develop conceptual designs for new products, taking into account cost, safety, ergonomics, environmental impact, fashion trends, and business feasibility.
- Establish design trend data and continuously upgrade existing product designs to improve functionality, quality, and manufacturability.
- Review and issue engineering drawings and specifications for newly designed products and their components.
- Implement modifications and improvements to existing products by issuing Engineering Change Notes (ECN) and updating Bill of Quantities (BOQs) accordingly.
- Supervise and mentor design teams, researchers, and prototype developers to ensure timely and quality outcomes.
- Assess new and existing suppliers to evaluate production processes, capability, and capacity control.
- Enhance the quality of supplier parts by recommending improvements to their procedures and process systems.
- Maintain strong communication and collaboration with suppliers to meet development and quality objectives.
- Conduct regular supplier visits for evaluation of quality, environmental aspects, and progress monitoring.
- Ensure implementation and compliance with ISO requirements to enhance overall organizational performance.
Qualifications:
- 16 years of education or equivalent education with 5–6 years of experience in product design, R&D, or manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of product design principles, engineering drawings, and production processes.
- Experience with supplier development, process capability evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Proficiency in using design and modelling software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).
- Familiarity with ISO standards and quality management systems.
