Position involves working in a fast-paced biomedical optics group within a computational neuroimaging lab. Our group develops novel optical imaging techniques, including optical coherence tomography (OCT) and multi-photon microscopy, and combines them with MRI and modeling to perform cutting-edge research in the brain. The lab comprises faculty, postdocs, graduate students, and research assistants from diverse backgrounds, including Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Neuroscience, Biology, Math, and Psychology. Education
Bachelor's Degree in Biology preferred.

Field of Study/Additional Specialized Training: Relevant backgrounds include Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biology, and Neuroscience.

Experience
Prior laboratory experience through coursework, internships, or employment; 1-2 years preferred.

The Research Technician will undertake various projects from our list of potential responsibilities, including:

The major responsibilities include:

  1. High-resolution OCT and multi-photon microscopy imaging
  • Operating imaging systems (training provided); previous optical microscopy experience preferred.
  • Handling brain tissue and imaging solutions.
  • Working independently and in teams in the optical lab, operating OCT and multi-photon microscopes, and collecting data.
  • Conducting routine post-processing and data analysis.
  • Learning technical details quickly and following procedures carefully.
  • Working evenings and weekends, including being on call for technical issues.
  • Maintaining computer literacy for imaging and data processing; MATLAB knowledge is preferred.
  1. Multi-modality, multi-scale image analysis
  • Training in computation and visualization tools like Freesurfer.
  • Routine data processing for various image modalities.
  • Image registration between ex vivo MRI, OCT, microscopy, and histology images.
  • Computer literacy and scripting knowledge (C, C++, or others) required.
  1. Engineering, characterization, and testing of OCT platforms
  • Computer literacy and some knowledge of hardware control, MATLAB, C, or C++ required.
  1. Tissue processing
  • General wet lab skills required, including tissue sectioning, mounting, staining, and specimen handling.

Additional projects involve optical system engineering, coding, analyzing large datasets, and neuroanatomy labeling.

  • Neuroanatomy knowledge is necessary.
  • Must be motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and interested in brain anatomy.

Salary range: $45,000-$47,500

Working Conditions: The role involves working in office, optical, and wet lab environments with sophisticated equipment, including lasers and microscopes. Exposure to chemicals like histology reagents and formaldehyde is possible but not at hazardous levels. The position requires physical presence in labs and adherence to safety protocols.
