A retail salesperson has the job of assessing the needs of the consumer and providing the latter with a suitable product. For instance, a salesperson working at a home store is required to have good taste and a friendly disposition, since the same will enable the salesperson to fulfill the requirements of the job. A salesperson is also required to have good knowledge about the available products in the store, so that better alternatives may be suggested to the seemingly dissatisfied consumer.

Job Specification
  1. Gathering market and customer information.
  2. Negotiating variations in price, delivery and specifications with managers.
  3. Advising on forthcoming product developments and discussing special promotions.
  4. Liaising with suppliers to check on the progress of existing orders.
  5. Checking quantities of goods on display in the showroom.
  6. Recording sales and order information and sending copies to the Manager at the end of the day.
  7. Reviewing own sales performance, aiming to meet or exceed targets.
  8. Gaining a clear understanding of customers and requirements.
  9. Making accurate, rapid cost calculations, and providing customers with quotations.
  10. Maintaining and developing relationships with existing customers.
