Job description

Project Overview:

We are building a large-scale SEO SaaS platform and seeking a highly experienced MySQL and infrastructure expert to help us:

Set up a 4-node MySQL Cluster (Group Replication or InnoDB Cluster) on Hetzner dedicated servers running Ubuntu 22.04.

Securely and efficiently import over 150 TB of compressed JSON data (.json.gz) from Google Cloud Storage into the MySQL cluster.

This is a remote, contract-based opportunity with strong potential for long-term DevOps/database support work, contingent upon performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and deploy a production-ready MySQL Cluster (preferably InnoDB Cluster or Group Replication) on 4 Ubuntu servers.

Set up secure, highly available networking with auto-failover and data redundancy across all nodes.

Optimize the MySQL setup for high-throughput JSON ingestion, including indexing, partitioning, and performance tuning to enhance overall efficiency.

Build a secure, resumable, and parallel data ingestion pipeline from Google Cloud Storage to MySQL.

Ensure full encryption of data in transit and at rest, utilizing SSH, firewalls, and properly configured MySQL user roles.

Implement logging, monitoring, and robust documentation of all steps and infrastructure to ensure comprehensive tracking and transparency.

Provide optional automation scripts (e.g., Ansible, Bash) or Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform) for reproducibility.

Test imports and validate data integrity and performance benchmarks.

Tech Stack:

Databases: MySQL 8.x (InnoDB Cluster / Group Replication)

Infrastructure: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Hetzner dedicated servers)

Storage Source: Google Cloud Storage (GCS)

Tools: gsutil, gzip, mysqlsh, mysqlrouter, mysqlpump, xtrabackup

Optional Tools: Python, Bash, Ansible, Terraform

Requirements:

Proven experience configuring production-grade MySQL clusters

Deep understanding of MySQL replication, high availability, and failover

Experience ingesting or transforming massive JSON datasets (50TB+)

Proficient in GCS CLI tools and cloud-to-server secure data transfer

Solid background in Linux system administration (Ubuntu preferred)

Strong grasp of security best practices: firewalls, SSH, MySQL roles, and backup strategies

Excellent skills in documentation, testing, and communication

Bonus Points For:

Experience with MySQL Router, ProxySQL, or Vitess

Familiarity with Percona XtraBackup or mysqlpump

Monitoring stack: Prometheus + Grafana

Prior experience with Hetzner servers or bare-metal infrastructure
