Aga Khan University (AKU), a private, self-governing international university chartered in Pakistan in 1983, is a role model for academic, research, and service programs in health and higher education in the developing world. The Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health aims to support the introduction, scale-up, and further piloting of high-quality and high-impact interventions to improve Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (MNCAH) in Pakistan by harnessing the potential of both public and private sectors, coupled with the introduction of women and girls empowerment intervention. UeN has two major components; one is to introduce proven effective MNCAH interventions at scale in 14 districts and the second is to generate evidence through innovative approaches to improve MNCAH while included in the public health program in Pakistan. Of the five innovation projects, one aims to measure the Men Engagement in Women Empowerment (MEWE) through Life Skills Building (LSB) and cash transfer to improve maternal mental health in Pakistan.

The Aga Khan University invites applications for the grant-funded contractual position of Senior Research Assistant in the Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health

• Under the supervision of the section In-charge, perform routine technical procedures, Clinical tests/Biochemical test on a daily basis according to Laboratory protocols/manual to assist in the timely preparation of the final reports for projects.
• Ensure that the samples are collected, prepared, and processed as per the protocol/guidelines stated in the research procedure manual for individual projects, to provide quality service on a daily basis or as and when required.
• Follow and assist seniors in the implementation of safety standards according to Research Laboratory Safety Manual on a daily basis for own safety and the safety of others
• Assist the section In-charge technologist in teaching students and trainees as per Laboratory protocols as and when assigned.
• Design training materials for junior staff regarding Laboratory protocols and procedures.
• Maintain Quality control records of equipment and Laboratory tests
• Prepare stock solutions, master mixes, and other chemicals/reagents as and when required for individual projects.
• Any other duty or responsibility assigned by the Lab-Manager/In-charge technologist.
• Confirm by discussing unusual findings found in the specimen currently working on with the In-charge technologist to avoid any misleading results going out to the data management facility for projects as and when required.
• Perform routine technical procedures for internal and external quality control surveys in line with the In-charge technologist instructions as and when required.
• Compile project results for presentation at departmental meetings.

• B.S/MSc (16 years of education) in Chemistry/Biochemistry/Microbiology or Biotechnology
• At least one year of Clinical Diagnostic or Research Laboratory experience of operating HPLC or Atomic absorption spectrometer.
• Strong familiarity with testing procedures in laboratories.
• Good Knowledge of Laboratory/research testing procedures.
• Ability to immediately follow written and oral instructions.
• Good team player
