
Protection Officer

The Protection officer having university degree in gender studies, psychology, sociology, or other social sciences and at least two years' experience of working on gender related issues and protection assistance preferably in refugees' settings will support HI's Protection program in the field. The Protection officer will report to the Project Manager.
Missions / responsibilitiesMission 1: Protection Assistance
The Protection Officer will:
- Work in the field to identify and meet persons in need of protection assistance within the community.
- Conduct inter-sectoral referrals for mental health support, rehabilitation and/or provide guidance and resources if available for external referral when requested in line with HI's principle of confidentiality and do no harm.
- Produce a map of external referral points that cover legal, shelter, cash and any other assistance if available.
- Regular follow-up of the assigned and/or identified cases in services being received to ensure that all available and required services are provided.
- Ensure information dissemination about available services to empower persons of concern to reach these services, participate in decision-making concerning them and provide feedback.
- Maintain up to date understanding of target communities' dynamics and changing needs of protection, like upcoming deportation of Afghan refugees, and especially of vulnerable groups e.g. women, older adults, children, and persons with disabilities.
- Ensure that all practices of the organization in the field strictly comply with HI's policy of PSEAH (Protection of beneficiaries from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment).
Mission 2: Community Awareness and Trainings
- Has knowledge of community social mobilization through participatory approach to guide and monitor the activities of the community workers / volunteers in field.
- Conduct awareness raising sessions within the community on GBV and other protection related issues.
- Ensure that the community is well-informed about available education, MHPSS and rehabilitation services and how to access support.
- Provide training and support to education staff, community workers and PTCs on protection mainstreaming, inclusion, protection related issues, and referral pathways.
- Collaborate with other components within the project for trainings and seminars, and identification of cross-cutting issues that may lead to protection outcomes within the community.
- Conduct trainings, learning sessions, and seminars with beneficiaries, and relevant stakeholders as identified.
- Maintain follow-up of learning, feedback, and new areas identified.
Mission 3: Coordination & Reporting
- Identify and coordinate with external stakeholders for identification, establishment, and strengthening of the referral mechanism.
- Support Senior Protection Officer in continuous mapping of services available in the areas of intervention and coordinate with stakeholders to disseminate information about the services available with HI to avoid duplication.
- Develop referral directory of available protection services, disseminate in the community, and sensitize them about the available services and assist them to link with the services.
- Participate in coordination meetings and coordinate with clusters to ensure the availability of up to date information regarding areas of intervention.
- Compile data at the end of every month for all activities as specified by the Senior Protection Officer and share with Line Manager and MEAL unit.
- Update the protection database regularly in both digital and hard copy forms.
- Regular reporting and facilitation of field activities and other activities (trainings, seminars, learning sessions etc.).
- Share lessons learnt in the field, prepare case studies and success stories pertaining to protection assistance for every quarter and/or as required.
Mission 4: Collaboration and Field Management
- Collaborate with school leaders, community workers, PTCs and psychologists to ensure protection mainstreaming into the overall program.
- Is responsible for support in arranging training venues within the community.
- Is responsible for liaising with other organizations in the field to avoid duplication.
- Can speak Pashto and Urdu.
