Deputy Lead Engineer – Corrosion Control

Engineering graduate preferably in Metallurgy, Mechanical or Electrical with at least 6 years of post-qualification experience primarily in pipeline integrity management and Cathodic protection.

Experience of working in Oil & Gas / Public Sector shall be preferred.

PEC registration is mandatory.

Certification of AMPP(NACE), API, or TWI for Cathodic Protection/ Coating Inspection will be an added advantage.

• The purpose is to ensure the corrosion management of all pipelines and gathering network within SSGC and to ensure integrity through a systematic approach to achieve the company targets as per the business plan.
• Ensure asset integrity by originating methods of protection against degradation mechanisms so that each asset completes its life within the defined design envelope.
• Conduct detailed inspections at Corrosion Control stations, buried pipelines, and pipeline construction projects, document findings, and take remedial actions in accordance with relevant codes and standards.
• Maintain the maintenance records and ensure CC stations are operating as required, undertaking rectification/maintenance where needed.
• Implement a comprehensive Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) program that can effectively manage assets, minimize downtime and repair costs, and extend the life of assets.
• Ensure optimum efficiency of CC operations to prevent pipeline corrosion by reviewing the coating and wrapping condition.
• Determine corrosion-related problems in the field through organizing surveys including bi-annual pipe‑to‑soil potential surveys, DCVG surveys for new and old pipelines, Close Interval Potential Survey (CIPS), periodic technical audits of existing CP systems, pipeline integrity assessment for external corrosion and CP instruments, and renovation of Ground-bed; coordinate activities with service providers or vendors where necessary.
• Implement health assessment of the existing coating system as part of the pipeline integrity assessment program.
• Develop and arrange coating rehabilitation plans in view of findings and recommendations of the pipeline integrity assessment.
• Develop corrosion monitoring and cathodic protection systems through material specifications, calculations and data analysis, power assessment and evaluation of survey data; confer with departments responsible for contracts, environmental compliance and right‑of‑way procurement.
• Arrange Front End Engineering Design (FEED) for newly laid pipelines.
• Perform timely renewal of Ground Beds activities across sections based on condition and renewal requirements.
• Monitor various field tests including Pipeline Current Mapping (PCM), Close Interval Potential Survey (CIPS), structure potential, Direct Current Voltage Gradient (DCVG), soil resistivity, current requirements, etc., and plan for recoating of pipelines based on survey results.
• Diagnose and rectify system difficulties during survey operations.
• Conduct interference testing and coordinate interactions with vendors and customers.
• Prepare reports on surveys and designs; prepare charts and tables for management.
• Assist in designing and planning regarding CC for new and existing pipelines.
• Arrange installation of sacrificial anode systems for pipeline protection against corrosion; conduct post-installation surveys.
• Assist in implementation of policies, procedures and rules regarding corrosion control of assets and undertake required corrosion control work for pipelines and systems.
• Perform pipeline rectification activities in response to field survey findings and monitor CC level of pipelines to ensure effectiveness in accordance with cathodic protection criteria.
• Prepare survey reports and findings on coating deterioration; revalidate Pipeline Integrity Assessments and identify vulnerable sections.
• Develop reports regarding corrosion monitoring received from assigned areas and accordingly guide action.
• Arrange procurement of necessary material and equipment on a timely basis.
• Assist in under-construction pipeline projects and monitor and check the coating status at handover of a new project.
• Ensure all corrosion control activities comply with relevant regulations, codes, and standards, such as NACE standards and OGRA regulations.
• Provide training and development for employees involved in corrosion control to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
• Ensure compliance with the Enterprise Risk Management Framework and the Company's Business Principles and Ethics Policy / Code of Conduct.
• Undertake any other task assigned by senior management.
