Responsibilities

AKU invites applications for the position of Supervisor for the Housekeeping Department. You will be responsible for best practices to ensure a hygienic, safe, and healthy work environment. Specifically, you will be responsible for:

  1. Supervising activities of housekeeping to ensure proper cleanliness according to defined standards.
  2. Maintaining constant awareness of the cleanliness, maintenance, and appearance of the hospital.
  3. Inspecting hygiene and sanitation of assigned areas and ensuring they meet defined standards.
  4. Ensuring that housekeeping staff are working in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures.
  5. Making sure that all cleaning supplies are available and appropriately labeled for assigned areas.
  6. Ensuring shift management is handled properly; all safety procedures are considered when mixing chemicals.
  7. Maintaining safety and infection control standards.
  8. Arranging materials used for cleaning from the housekeeping store and coordinating project work and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
  9. Arranging adequate staff coverage in all areas by distributing staff efficiently on a daily basis.
  10. Preparing daily supervisory inspection reports and forwarding them to the assigned senior.
  11. Providing on-the-job training to the staff.
  12. Reporting maintenance issues to the Maintenance/Engineering Department.
  13. Immediately reporting and documenting any observed safety hazards, conditions, or unsafe practices and procedures.
Requirements
  1. Intermediate with at least 1 year of relevant field experience.
  2. Knowledge of hygiene, sanitary standards, and fumigation.
  3. Ability to control, discipline, and motivate staff.
  4. Knowledge of housekeeping work procedures and equipment.
  5. Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  6. Ability to work under pressure and resolve problems.
  7. Physically fit – the role requires continuous rounds in the assigned area.
