Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Data Security Analyst to join our security operations team. As a key member of the team, you will play a critical role in protecting our platform from abuse and ensuring the integrity of our users' data.

Your Responsibilities:

• Vetting abuse claims, responding to reporters, and helping customers resolve issues.
• Analyzing network traffic to identify compromised systems, prevent denial-of-service attacks, and pinpoint resource abuse.
• Monitoring and investigating user-generated content and activities to identify policy violations, fraud, abuse, and other harmful behaviors.
• Identifying trends in abuse vectors, communicating with leadership, and advocating for process improvements to prevent future occurrences.
• Maintaining the usability of DigitalOcean IP space by handling delisting requests from block lists or drop lists that hinder email flow for our customers.
• Evaluating hosted content and following up based on our Acceptable Use Policy, which may include adult or inappropriate content.
• Assisting with the development and implementation of automated systems for detecting and mitigating abusive or fraudulent activities.
• Investigating, identifying, and preventing or mitigating abusive activities such as intrusion attempts, DDoS attacks, malware distribution, phishing attacks, etc. originating from our Platform.
• Working within a queue management system with daily targets for customer contacts completed with quality resolutions.
• Handling escalations by providing business solutions and being responsible for end-to-end operational processes.
• Providing guidance and oversight to customers to ensure compliance with all applicable policies.
• Collaborating with the Security organization and Infrastructure teams to harden account, platform, and service structures to combat hijackings and compromises.
• Understanding internal tools and processes and leveraging them to push automation.
• Applying legal concepts of fair use related to copyright, trademark, defamation, and plagiarism.
• Assisting with developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
• 2-4+ years of experience in security operations & incident response roles.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Policy enforcement.
  • User trust, risk, fraud, or product abuse investigation.
  • Network security.
  • Security operations.
  • Incident response.
• Understanding of hardware, software, and networking; distributed computing; virtualization; high-performance storage systems; databases; and cloud computing.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP concepts, application protocols, and database structures, along with proficiency in working with Unix/Linux.
• Strong communication skills, prioritization capabilities, and multitasking abilities.
• A positive attitude with a desire to keep our customers and the internet safe.
• Relevant certifications, such as CompTIA Security+, Certified SOC Analyst (CSA), or Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), are a plus.
• Bonus: Knowledge of programming/scripting languages like Ruby, Python, or Bash.
