Job Title: Community Protection Specialist

The position of Community Protection Specialist is part of the protection team and reports to a higher-grade GBV or protection staff. The specialist works directly with communities and persons of concern to identify risks and implement community-based approaches.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the implementation of GBV programmes for the operation, liaising with relevant authorities and UN agencies.
  • Providing technical support and guidance to partners to ensure good quality project implementation in line with GBV Strategy and global minimum standards.
  • Ensuring monthly reporting, including GBVIMS and proGres v4 statistics, which inform policy and projects development.
  • Staying up-to-date on political, social, economic, and cultural developments impacting the protection environment.
  • Promoting mainstreaming of Age, Gender, and Diversity (AGD) across sectors, coordinating with Programme and Protection sections to incorporate GBV risk mitigation into partner activities.
  • Providing technical guidance on integrating survivor-centred approaches into PSEA complaints mechanisms and enhancing access to existing GBV services for SEA survivors.
  • Supporting the integration of GBV risk mitigation into the role of UNHCR staff across all sectors.
  • Contributing to initial needs assessments, capacity assessments, and planning for multi-sectoral GBV programming using the Results Framework.
  • Contributing to strengthening coordination mechanisms and establishing strategic partnerships for GBV with community-based, women-led, local, national, and international organizations.
  • Mapping existing services addressing GBV in affected areas, identifying community capacities for potential partnership.
  • Advocating with senior management for prioritization of GBV prevention and response as a life-saving response.
