A medical professional who plays a vital role in the healthcare system by providing high-quality medical care to patients undergoing dialysis treatment.
Key Responsibilities:- Medical Care:
- Conduct regular rounds of the dialysis unit, examining patient reports and ensuring that instructions from nephrologists are being followed.
- Supervise technicians to ensure adherence to sterile precautions and patient safety protocols.
- Address complications such as bleeding or hypotension during dialysis.
- Assist nephrologists with procedures like inserting catheters or fistulas.
- Analyze pre- and post-dialysis vitals and identify potential health issues.
- Order necessary tests and monitor lab results for future complications.
- Closing dialysis procedures according to protocol.
- Receive new patients and conduct initial diagnoses in the absence of nephrologists.
- Support OT doctors in surgical procedures when needed.
- Implement emergency protocols in the absence of the on-duty nephrologist.
- Process and Quality:
- Update patient records for current and future reference.
- Ensure accurate record-keeping before and after each dialysis procedure.
- Maintain adherence to quality standards and NABH guidelines.
- Staff and Facility Management:
- Act as an on-call doctor for medical matters in the nephrology department.
- Advise the dialysis therapy manager on medical facility and infrastructure matters.
- Train junior DMOs and provide performance-related feedback.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Educate patients on dialysis procedures and address their concerns.
- Refer patients to dieticians or psychologists for dietary modifications or emotional support.
- Conduct daily rounds and monitor patient progress.
