Procurement Strategist Job Overview

Purpose of the Role: To develop and implement purchasing strategies that ensure optimal supplier performance, mitigate supply chain risks, and deliver cost savings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute best practice purchasing vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to drive business performance.
  • Evaluate challenges faced by the business and take action to minimize risks and develop opportunities.
  • Contribute to overall business strategy and annual planning process.
  • Develop and maintain strategic supplier relationships and manage contracts to achieve continuous improvement in delivery of goods and services.
  • Negotiate contract terms with key suppliers to ensure value for money, quality standards, and delivery terms.
  • Craft negotiation strategies and close deals with optimal terms.
  • Forecast price and market trends to identify changes in buyer-supplier power.
  • Seek and partner with reliable vendors and suppliers.
  • Develop an overall vendor base that creates and sustains a competitive advantage.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a supplier relationship and evaluation process.
  • Ensure professional and consistent supplier management across the supply base.
  • Work closely with Research and Development to source new and alternative raw materials.
  • Ensure strong communication between teams to facilitate exchange of information and implement change and improvements.
  • Operate the function in accordance with health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership, coordination, and coaching to the team to achieve operational and financial metrics.
  • Manage the Purchasing budget and forecasts from identification to completion of projects.
