Job Title

Tunnel Design Expert

This is a key role within the project, responsible for overseeing the design and construction of tunnels for dams and hydropower projects.

  • The successful candidate will have extensive experience in tunnel design and construction supervision, particularly in relation to dams and hydropower projects.
  • Responsibilities include reviewing and undertaking detailed designs, making necessary changes, planning, and executing tunnel structures as part of the hydropower project.
  • Supervising the execution of tunnel activities undertaken by contractors, leading and guiding teams of local engineers for effective supervision of works.
  • Recommending and approving scopes of work for additional investigations for underground works, including tunnels, shafts, etc.
  • Reviewing geology and geotechnical information relating to tunnels and power intake structures.
  • Approving drilling programs regarding underground investigation requirements.
  • Reviewing design and layouts of all tunnelling and related works for the project.
  • Reviewing, suggesting, and monitoring safety measures for staff, materials, and works.
  • Preparing technical reports, if necessary, relating to tunnel design or execution of tunnel works.
  • Checking diversion and power intake drawings prepared by CAD operators.
  • Inputting to site design groups for assessment of required design updating.
  • Preparing FEA models using actual field data.
  • Performing technical assessments and analyses related to tunnel construction and stability.
  • Overseeing quality assurance and ensuring compliance with project specifications and standards.
  • Monitoring and reporting project progress relating to tunnels and suggesting measures to eliminate risks during construction.
  • Providing technical support and guidance during the construction phase to address challenges.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Master's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent from an internationally recognized institution or HEC/PEC.
  • A minimum of 20 years of professional experience.
  • At least 15 years of expertise in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of specialized experience in the design and construction of tunnels for dams and hydropower projects.
  • Strong knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles and tunneling methods.
