The Role

OVERALL AIM:
To assist in the management of the development programme, including responsibility for developing and/or engineering products, kitchen trials, product costing, factory production trials, feasibility, and product launch scheduling.

  1. Evaluate New Products:
    To assess new products during the development process through conducting appropriate in-house and external taste panels - and maintain full & accurate records of results.
  2. Provide Technical Support:
    Technical support to other departments including product cooking times and temperatures, recipe ideas, nutritional data, etc.
  3. Effect Continuous Product Evaluation:
    Continuous evaluation of both company and competitors' products (varieties, formulation, and quality), recommending action accordingly.
  4. Carry Out Initial Ingredient Sourcing:
    Closely liaise with Technical and Purchasing departments to conduct initial ingredient sourcing.
  5. Control and Record Development Samples:
    Ensure all development samples are controlled and recorded across all departments - ensuring feedback and action plans are agreed.
  6. Manage Process Control:
    Organize production trials, cost, product reviews, and development schedules to manage the process control from development concept to finished production item.
  7. Monitor and Review Performance:
    Monitor and review the ongoing performance of new products and production requirements as necessary.
  8. Carry Out Ad Hoc Projects:
    Carry out ad hoc projects and product feasibility reports as required.
Job Specification

Requirements:
Graduate degree in Human Ecology/Home Economics/Food Technology or related subject.
Experience:
Up to 2 years post-graduate experience in a development role or an experienced development chef is essential.
Key Skills:
Strong knowledge of brands, values, and processes. Tenacious and detailed in approach, with a 'can do attitude'. Team player.
