Junior Sous Chef Job Description

The Junior Sous Chef is a crucial team member in the kitchen, supporting the Sous Chef and Head Chef in daily operations. This role oversees kitchen staff, maintains food quality standards, assists with menu development, and ensures smooth service.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Assisting Sous Chef and Head Chef with managing daily kitchen operations.
  • Supervising and supporting junior kitchen staff to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
  • Preparing and presenting dishes to the highest standard.
  • Assisting in planning and creating menus, including specials.
  • Maintaining high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety.
  • Monitoring portion control, waste management, and stock rotation.
  • Helping manage inventory, ordering, and receiving of supplies.
  • Coordinating with the kitchen team to ensure smooth service during busy periods.
  • Training, mentoring, and motivating junior staff to improve skills and performance.
  • Taking charge of the kitchen in the absence of the Sous Chef.
Requirements

To be successful as a Junior Sous Chef, you should have:

  • Proven experience as a Chef de Partie or similar role in a professional kitchen.
  • Strong culinary knowledge with the ability to prepare a wide variety of dishes.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and maintain consistency during busy service.
  • Strong knowledge of food hygiene and safety regulations.
  • Creativity and passion for food presentation and innovation.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
