Job Title: Somali Interpreter

 

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Somali Interpreter to join our team. The ideal candidate will have excellent language skills, both written and spoken, and be able to provide accurate interpretations in a fast-paced environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform oral interpretation during interviews conducted for protection activities
  • Interpret oral conversations, discussions and counselling sessions with refugees and asylum-seekers, including psycho-social counselling, and other counselling sessions with vulnerable and/or traumatized individuals
  • Interpret at public meetings or events, as required
  • Interpret and/or translate from hand-written reports and applications, certificates, documents, newspapers, magazines etc.
  • Support the unit with collecting and maintaining records on country of origin information
  • Assist with contacting refugees via telephone, upon the request of protection caseworkers
  • Assist with completing referral forms and other documents as required with inclusion of updating information in KOBO Toolbox database
  • Travels with CBP staff on their community visits for interpretation and other assistance, as needed
  • Provides other support to the CBP teams and takes minutes/notes
  • Performs clerical duties to support CBP and general protection caseworkers (such as scanning, copying, retyping translations and/or interview transcripts)
  • Assists with interpretation and translation of communication and visibility products
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements:

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced interpreter who has:

  • Fluent written and spoken Somali language skills
  • Knowledge of Arabic language is considered an added advantage
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion when dealing with sensitive information
