Job Title: Remote Bookkeeper – QuickBooks, Xero & TaxCycle (Canadian T1)

About the Role

  • We're seeking a detail-oriented Remote Bookkeeper to support a Canadian accounting practice.
  • The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with QuickBooks, Xero, and TaxCycle (income-tax filing software) plus a strong grasp of the Canadian tax environment, especially T1 personal returns.
  • Note: TaxCycle proficiency is required — this is the primary software used for Canadian income-tax preparation (T1 returns).

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform day-to-day bookkeeping in QuickBooks Online and/or Xero:​ ​ Bank/credit-card reconciliations​
  • Expense classification & posting​ AP/AR tracking and month-end close​
  • Use TaxCycle to assist with T1 income-tax preparation and filing.​
  • Follow established internal processes and checklists—no industry-specific expertise required.​
  • Maintain accurate, organized records and flag any discrepancies proactively.​
  • Work independently on repetitive, rules-based tasks after initial training (should only need instructions once or twice).​
  • ​ Support the accountant in meeting Canadian compliance deadlines (GST/HST, payroll remittances, tax-filing).​
  • Communicate promptly and clearly with the supervising accountant; role is not client-facing.​

Required Qualifications

  • Practical experience with QuickBooks Online, Xero, and TaxCycle (for Canadian T1 income-tax preparation).​
  • Working knowledge of Canadian personal tax (T1) filings and what is commonly taxable/non-taxable for individuals.​
  • Ability to understand the logic behind accounting software—strong grasp of rules-based accounting rather than heavy math.​
  • Detail-oriented and able to maintain accuracy on repetitive tasks.​
  • Availability during Canadian business hours (9 AM – 5 PM ET).​
  • English communication: good written and spoken English for internal coordination (does not need to be polished for clients).​
  • Self-starter who requires minimal micromanagement once trained.​
  • Preferred / Nice-to-Have
  • Prior Canadian work or lived experience to better understand everyday tax-deductible/non-deductible items.​
  • Previous remote-work experience with accounting or bookkeeping teams.​
  • Comfort working with rules-based workflows and checklists.​

Work Arrangement

  • Schedule: Must overlap 9 AM – 5 PM EST​
  • Location: Fully remote​
