Overview

We are hiring a
Senior Database Engineer
to design, optimize, and manage the data storage layer of our data analytics platform. This role is critical in ensuring the performance, reliability, and scalability of our data infrastructure — which supports ingesting and processing over a terabyte of telemetry data daily from thousands of edge devices.

You will be responsible for managing both relational and non-relational databases, designing schemas optimized for time-series, audio signature matching, and report generation, and collaborating with data engineers and analysts to ensure efficient downstream access to clean, validated data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement database schemas for signature storage, matching indexes, telemetry logs, and panel metadata.
  • Administer
    PostgreSQL
    and
    MongoDB
    (or equivalent) databases, including replication, backup, and monitoring.
  • Optimize queries, indexes, and storage strategies for large-scale batch processing jobs.
  • Implement data archiving, partitioning, and retention policies to maintain long-term storage efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers to structure ingestion pipelines for minimal DB impact.
  • Ensure integrity, availability, and performance of databases under heavy ingest and transform workloads.
  • Support reporting layers (e.g., exporting clean data to CSVs or dashboards) with stable, well-documented views and interfaces.
  • Monitor database health and proactively address bottlenecks, slow queries, or inconsistencies.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 6+ years of experience in database engineering, administration, or large-scale data systems.
  • Deep knowledge of
    PostgreSQL
    , including performance tuning, vacuuming, query planning, and indexing.
  • Experience with
    NoSQL
    systems such as
    MongoDB
    , especially for unstructured/log data.
  • Strong SQL skills with experience building views, materialized views, and stored procedures.
  • Familiarity with
    Linux-based deployments
    , including command-line tooling and configuration.
  • Ability to design storage-efficient schemas and optimize them for heavy write + analytical read patterns.
  • Understanding of database replication, backup strategies, and disaster recovery plans.

Preferred

  • Experience with
    time-series databases
    (e.g., TimescaleDB, InfluxDB) or
    columnar storage
    (e.g., Parquet, ClickHouse).
  • Familiarity with telemetry data, signature datasets, or media audience measurement systems.
