Summary

The Lead DBA will be responsible for both hands-on database administration and team leadership, focusing on high-availability relational and MPP databases in Linux environments. The role requires a strong technical foundation, proven experience with large distributed systems, and the ability to lead a team providing 24/7 services to global clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the global DBA team to ensure operational excellence, knowledge sharing, and professional development.
  • Oversee installation, configuration, administration, monitoring, and upgrading of MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MPP databases (e.g., Greenplum, Cloudberry) to guarantee high availability, security, and optimal performance.
  • Establish and enforce database governance, operational standards, and best practices.
  • Provide technical leadership on database design, architecture, capacity planning, and performance tuning for large-scale (multi-TB) systems.
  • Guide and perform query optimization and support developers/analysts with complex SQL, stored procedures/functions, schema design, and DDL/DML scripts.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of complex database incidents with adherence to SLAs/OLAs.
  • Design and implement robust disaster recovery (DR), backup, and high-availability strategies to ensure business continuity.
  • Partner with application, infrastructure, and security teams to ensure resilient, compliant, and scalable database solutions.
  • Act as a mentor and escalation point for the DBA team, fostering collaboration, knowledge transfer, and problem-solving culture.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of database administration experience, with at least 3+ years in a senior or lead capacity.
  • Deep expertise in MySQL and PostgreSQL administration on Linux platforms.
  • Proven hands-on experience with MPP database platforms (e.g., Greenplum, Cloudberry, Teradata, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of database internals: engine architecture, storage, memory management, and background processes.
  • Experience managing enterprise-scale, mission-critical databases (2+ TB).
  • Excellent leadership, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in managing and optimizing cloud-based database platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Proficiency in automation and scripting/programming (Python, Bash, or similar).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in global, distributed teams.
  • Flexible, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
