Job Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accountant Assistant to support our finance team in managing daily accounting tasks. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining financial records, preparing reports, and assisting in day-to-day finance operations in compliance with UK accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing financial statements, invoices, and management accounts
  • Process accounts payable and receivable
  • Perform bank reconciliations and monitor cash flow
  • Help with VAT returns and other HMRC submissions
  • Support in payroll processing and employee expense claims
  • Maintain organised financial records and documentation
  • Assist in preparing budgets and forecasts
  • Liaise with suppliers, clients, and internal departments regarding financial transactions
  • Support in month-end and year-end close processes
  • Assist with audits and ensure compliance with financial regulations

Requirements:

  • AAT Level 2/3 (or working towards) or similar accounting qualification
  • Prior experience in a finance or accounting role is desirable but not essential
  • Strong numeracy and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Excel
  • Good attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of UK tax and payroll legislation
  • Experience working in a professional services or SME environment
  • Familiarity with cloud-based accounting systems
