The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at The Aga Khan University is a dynamic academic centre which serves the diagnostic needs of the country through its clinical laboratory services that spreads across Pakistan. AKUH's Clinical Laboratory is College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited and caters to the need of the entire country through its tertiary lab at the main campus and 300+ specimen collection units and 13 stat labs across Pakistan.
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine consists of five major sections namely Chemical Pathology, Hematology & Transfusion Medicine, Histopathology, Microbiology, and Molecular Pathology. Each section is academically driven and is highly engaged in research and undergraduate, postgraduate teaching and training.
Aga Khan University invites application for the position of Assistant in the Department of Histopathology, a section of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine.
ResponsibilitiesSpecifically, you will be responsible to:
- Carry out general departmental duties as assigned by respective supervisor
- Assist and perform day-to-day operations such as receiving, storage, preservation of slides and blocks filing
- Collect histopathology samples from different benches and keep safe in storeroom as per the retention period
- Attend telephone calls, and resolve doctors/patient queries
- Report discrepancies if any found while performing assigned tasks
- Assist in handling and issuance of supplies within section
- Types letters, memos, reports, records and other documents from drafts or other clearly defined sources on a daily basis to ensure timely preparation of paperwork
- Manage meeting schedules, effective arrangement of resources required for meetings and taking minutes.
- Performs routine clerical work such as posting, sorting, filing and maintenance of records according to guidelines provided on a daily basis or as and when required for quick irretrievability of documents
- Handles telephone enquires related to laboratory tests or test report as when required in line with the departmental policies to provide quality service
- Arrange forms and reports on daily basis
- Fill the formalin container and maintain waste disposal
You should have:
- Intermediate certificate, graduation will be preferred
- at least 2 to 3 years of related experience, preferably in a hospital setup
- adequate knowledge of operating computers and working on related software such as Microsoft Office
- ability to effectively work independently as well as in teams
