In addition to the tertiary care hospital in Karachi, AKUH has a network of 4 secondary care hospitals, 30+ Medical Centres, and over 290+ Clinical Laboratories, 30+ Pharmacies in over 120+ cities across Pakistan. It also offers Home Healthcare Services and home deliveries of medicines. The Hospital provides Zakat for those patients who are eligible, and the health systems offers generous Patient Welfare to support those in financial need. In recognition of its high quality and patient safety, the AKUH is accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) as an Academic Medical Centre and its Clinical Laboratories are accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) for fast and accurate testing.

The Nutrition and Food Services Department (NFSD) provides a range of products and services to students, faculty, staff as well as patients and their attendants. It comprises of a team of experienced clinical nutritionists, dietitians, and foodservice professionals. The services are provided through six sections; clinical nutrition, patient meal services, cafeteria & catering services, food production, food safety management and cost control and approximately 13,000-15,000 meals are served in a day.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for a variety of tasks, which includes:

  • cleaning, peeling, cutting, and preparing portions and pre-process food preparation as assigned;
  • preparing hot and cold beverages special formulas using standard recipes and guidelines for patients and non-patients;
  • arranging serving pans, utensils and other equipment needed to set up, prepare and maintain the various serving lines/stations for service of food & beverages to patients, employees, students, guests or other patrons as assigned;
  • arranging and serving food and beverages in cafeterias, dining rooms, patient tray service, and at special functions such as banquets or VIP Luncheons as per the direction of supervisor;
  • handling food service outlets of on campus/off campus functions (including food transportation/ physical setting/serving food to customer/maintaining cash where required) as directed by supervisor;
  • you may be assigned in any phase of operations within the Nutrition and Food Service department (Patient Meals/ Cafeteria and Function Services/ Production and Pre-Processing/Food Store/Stewarding).
Requirements

You should have:

  • matric with 3-4 years of related experience
    OR 
  • non-matric with 5 - 6 years' of institutional food services experience from Hospital / Hotel / Airline / Restaurants;
  • ability to understand simple verbal and written instructions in Urdu and English;
  • some ability to prepare and serve food;
  • knowledge to operate food service equipment;
  • familiar with the table services;
  • ability to work in a team;
  • respectful attitude towards supervisor & colleagues;
  • as per department policy the use of cell phone, jewellery, ring, ear rings, watches, and chain necklace during working hours is restricted.
