The Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi, is Pakistan's oldest and most prestigious public-sector business school, founded in 1955 with academic support from the Wharton School and the University of Southern California. About the School of Economics and Social Sciences (SESS)

SESS at IBA is a vibrant academic unit comprising two departments—Economics and Social Sciences & Liberal Arts (SSLA)—and two research centers: the Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) and the Population Research Center (PRC). With a strong faculty base, including 37 PhD holders, SESS offers expertise in Development Economics, Macroeconomics, Trade, Political Science, Literature, Media Studies, and more.

CBER serves as a dynamic research platform addressing global challenges and fostering policy-relevant scholarship through initiatives like the Brown Bag Seminar Series. The school also houses specialized research labs, including the Social Inequality Lab, Economic Growth and Forecasting Lab, and Psychology Lab, promoting interdisciplinary research and academic innovation.

About the Position

The Dean of the School of Economics and Social Sciences (SESS) at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of the school's academic and administrative operations. This position involves strategic planning, faculty management, policy development, budgeting, and ensuring the quality and relevance of academic programs.

The ideal candidate will be appointed as a professor in accordance with IBA criteria. The appointment is for a three-year term, after which the individual will resume duties as Professor.

Candidate Profile

• A PhD from a recognized institution in a relevant discipline.
• Eligibility for appointment as a professor as per IBA and Pakistan's Higher Education Commission (HEC) standards.
• A demonstrated record of scholarly achievement, with impactful publications in peer-reviewed international journals.
• Proven experience in academic leadership, strategic planning, and faculty development.
• Ability to foster international collaborations, attract research funding, and promote inclusive academic environments.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership and Planning

• Develop and implement SESS's strategic plan aligned with IBA's vision.
• Enhance the school's academic reputation and interdisciplinary profile.
• Promote an inclusive, innovative academic culture.

2. Policy Development

• Identify and address policy gaps in areas like journalism and creative arts.
• Design, revise, and oversee policies to strengthen curriculum and research.
• Ensure the academic rigor and relevance of all programs.

3. Faculty Development and Academic Support

• Lead faculty recruitment, retention, and mentorship.
• Facilitate international collaboration and faculty development.
• Promote a culture of research, dialogue, and academic inquiry.
• Fulfill teaching, research, and student supervision responsibilities.

4. Budgeting and Resource Allocation

• Manage the school's budget and advocate for strategic resources.
• Conduct cost-benefit analyses for initiatives, including in humanities and arts.

5. Community and Stakeholder Engagement

• Build external partnerships with academia, government, NGOs, and industry.
• Organize regular academic talks, seminars, and international linkages.
• Represent SESS at local and international academic forums.

6. Administrative Responsibilities

• Oversee academic operations, including admissions and curriculum development.
• Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and institutional policies.
• Provide updates to IBA's leadership on school performance.
• Coordinate across departments and maintain institutional records.
• Ensure adherence to HEC and QEC policies and reporting standards.
