Optometry and Orthoptics Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Optometry and Orthoptics Specialist to join our team. As an expert in this field, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning experiences to students.

About the Role
  • Meet annual targets set by the Head of Department to ensure academic excellence.
  • Work towards university-set objectives to deliver a high-quality teaching and learning environment for students, as envisioned by the Dean/Principal.
  • Instruct assigned courses in accordance with faculty workload policies, ensuring student engagement and understanding.

This role requires a strong commitment to ongoing professional development, with a focus on enhancing teaching and learning skills, contributing to curriculum planning and design.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Pursue ongoing professional development to enhance teaching and learning skills, contributing to curriculum planning and design.
  2. Employ innovative teaching methods, incorporating experiential learning to foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills among students.
  3. Encourage intellectual curiosity, promote debate, and develop students' ability to engage in critical discourse and rational thinking.
  4. Supervise student projects, field trips, and placements, providing guidance and support as needed.
  5. Assess, grade, and provide constructive feedback to students on their assignments and exams.
  6. Maintain accurate records of student academic performance for internal evaluation purposes.
  7. Adhere to the Riphah Mentoring Program, mentoring 15-20 students to facilitate their academic growth and success.
  8. Update relevant data in Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and other required software, ensuring seamless information flow.
  9. Integrate Islamic and ethical values into teaching practices, promoting a holistic learning experience.
  10. Participate in departmental and university committees, contributing expertise and insights as required.
  11. Evaluate and refine teaching content and delivery methods to align with RIU's mission and vision.
  12. Address subordinates' and students' needs, providing support and resolving issues promptly.
  13. Monitor student attendance in classes, labs, and practicals, taking necessary actions to maintain optimal levels.
  14. Publish research findings through various media channels, including academic journals and conferences.
  15. Seek real-world applications of research outcomes, promoting practical impact and relevance.
  16. Conduct independent research, serving as principal investigator and project leader.
  17. Serve as a line manager, overseeing the work of others in research teams and projects, or acting as PhD supervisor when required.
  18. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements
