At Aga Khan University, our department of Paediatrics and Child Health is seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join its team. As part of our renowned Outreach and Research Programme, this role will contribute significantly to cutting-edge research projects aimed at improving women and child health in Pakistan.

About the Role

The successful candidate will play a pivotal part in advancing knowledge and developing innovative solutions to address the country's most pressing healthcare challenges. With expertise in neuroimaging or related fields, you will perform detailed manual segmentation and mapping of brain structures using MRI images, ensuring accuracy and consistency in your work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Data Analysis: You will collaborate with AI developers to preprocess and annotate imaging data for training machine learning models, and validate AI outputs against expert annotations to refine model accuracy.
  • Collaboration: You will maintain comprehensive documentation of MRI processing workflows and quality control procedures, ensuring seamless communication and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Documentation: You will prepare and present weekly, fortnightly, and monthly project reports and presentations, effectively communicating research findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Mandatory Qualifications: A medical degree (MBBS) or a related medical background is required, as well as experience in neuroimaging or related fields, with proficiency in MRI data analysis.
  • Demonstrated Skills: Familiarity with neuroimaging software such as FSL, SPM, FreeSurfer, ITK-SNAP, 3D Slicer, or BrainSuite, 1–2 years of related work experience in neuroimaging, radiology, or related medical fields, and excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail are essential.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with infant brain anatomy and its development in MRI images, strong understanding of neuroanatomy and brain structure identification, ability to annotate segmented images with regions of interest (ROIs), including cortical and subcortical areas, familiarity with machine learning or AI tools for medical imaging, and knowledge of data visualization and analysis software (e.g., Python, MATLAB, R).
